*phew* AGAIN

So after stressing out about the budget, and then talking to my parents, we have now managed to cut our budget by two thirds. And my father says he will pay for part of that. Which is awesome, because it means we can have an open bar . . .

This Easter weekend actually blew quite a bit. I spent Thursday night avoiding and then Saturday night having awkward conversations with someone who has essentially said I'm not good enough to marry Andy (what, you didn't think I knew?), and then Sunday was at my cousin's, which was awesome except that my grandmother has never said that my impending nuptials are anything other than "interesting," and has said nothing at all to Andy. Yesterday she didn't even say hi to Andy, and all she said to me was, "I haven't yet seen your ring!" grabs my hand, then pats me on the back.

???

Why is getting married such an ordeal?

*phew*

I just put the finishing touches on my estimates for the cost of this wedding of ours.

I won't tell you what it is, but it's higher than I wanted it to be.

Now, I've included a million little details in the whole thing: postage, marriage license, wedding bands, consultation fees . . . I think I've got everything.

To make myself feel better I have added in all the stuff that's either included in the cost of something else, DIY, or free because I can wrangle it out of someone . . .

I'm also at a temporary standstill. Still waiting to hear back from certain vendors, and waiting and waiting for time to pass before I can do things. For example, I can't send out the invitations because I haven't confirmed the venue, nor do I yet have a return address for people to RSVP. I can't go talk to the florist yet because the flowers I want won't be available until the summer months anyway.

On top of that, we're still having trouble finding a place to live in St. John's. All our leads have so far petered out.

Any ideas?

distractions

TLC is so addictive . . . I mean, even if it's a show that you have no interest in, like A Baby Story, it's so well done that you can't help but watch it again and again and again.

Another distraction is this huge hunk of rock on my finger. Especially if there's a patch of sunlight. I'm getting carpal tunnel in my ring finger from wiggling it to make it sparkle in the sunshine. I have also blinded myself a couple of times.

What's also distracting is that, although I've been wearing a ring on that finger for the past few months, I'm just so conscious that it's there all the time. I also live in constant fear that it's going to clang against something, the stone is going to fall out and get washed down the sink.

Another distraction? Trying to figure out a budget for a wedding that's a year and a half away, but which we have to get mostly planned before we move to Newfoundland. And then trying to work on the budget for moving, as well.

Anyone have a million dollars they'd like to give us?

Soon to be Mrs.

Howdy.

So he did it. Got down on one knee and everything.

And I said I'd think about it.

Just kidding. I said yes before he was even done talking.

So save the date: 19 September 2009.

Wheeeeeeee!

the new news

The day before we heard from Newfoundland, Andy and I were talking about his job, and he was very unhappy. He kept saying, "I would quit today if I could," and then finally I said, "well, why don't you?"

And he gave notice on Friday that his last working day would be the 14th of March.

And that was fine.

And NOW BBM-NMR is BEGGING him to work a little bit longer . . . this is the company that was on the verge of firing him like three days ago because they are crazy. So in negotiating that they will be nicer to him, considering that he has done nothing wrong (and this from the mouth of his boss who yells at him all the time), Andy will now be working for them until the end of May. his paycheques are backdated two weeks, so he'll be receiving money until mid-June, and then he has about 30 days' vacation that I'm sure they'll cash out for him.

This means that in July he'll be doing all the packing and organizing. I'll be working overtime at the store, re-training the old manager who trained me, and organizing things for the Kanata store to open.

Craziness . . .
