Temporary Update #2

Some interim pictures of the new place and my nephew are up. More when I get some good light.

Wishing I could sleep in

So we are moved. It's GREAT.

Pictures will follow soon when I have everything finally put away and I can find the cord to connect my camera to my computer . . .

Don't got much else to say. My sister is helping me unpack and stuff and today we are shopping, which will be fun.

More later when I am not so freaking tired.

Today . . . we also paint - again

I hope that once I move there will be no more of this waking up at 7 on the dot on a Saturday business - unless I have to go to work.

Of course it also doesn't help that I have my incredibly cute 2-year-old nephew yelling "'ello, Aunti Ow!" at the top of his lungs outside my door, in the hopes that I will come out and play cars with him or help him run up and down the long staircase.

My room is really empty right now - my bookshelves are dismantled and downstairs, and any remaining stuff I have scattered around can be stuffed into a backpack tomorrow morning. My room has the same echo-y feeling it did when I moved into it ten years ago. I've never been in a place for ten years before.

Painting went well - Pie's sister Meg helped us out, and we got the first coats down on the bedroom and the kitchen. The bedroom is a light green with a hint of brown, and then the kitchen is a greenish gray. The only problem with the kitchen was that the walls in it were all different colours, so on one of the walls, the wet colour of our paint looked exactly like the dry colour of the original paint, and we had no idea where we'd gone over. So some spots were really gone over a few times, and other spots are completely blank. Them's the luck of the draw. Not to mention that each one of us had our share of paint mishaps: stepping on the paint lid, putting one's hand in the paint tray, leaning accidentally against a fresh wall . . .

today . . . we PAINT!

Perfect day for it, too, rainy and gloomy.

I'm up too early, as usual. Construction workers across the street always start at 7 on the dot, so now I tend to wake up then whether they're there or not.

It's funny - now that my stuff is all in boxes and in the process of being carted down to the garage, I realize two things: the first is how much stuff I really own. It's quite a shocking amount. And second, because I haven't had access to some of it for two weeks or so, how little I actually need some of it.

Interesting.

So today we paint.

Accomplishing things

Right.

Where was I?

Oh yes.

NOTHING OF IMPORT HAS HAPPENED SINCE I LAST POSTED.

So that's where we stand.

I've been making progress with the furniture, I've been acquiring appliances (at ri-goddamned-diculous cheap prices - like FREE), I've been finding out when garbage day is and looking into getting blue and black boxes for recycling, I've been packing and as a result have no actual STUFF because it's all in boxes. . . .

And in seven days the process will officially begin.

I have the whole weekend off because we were originally going camping. So Friday and Saturday we will paint and bring in a few boxes - like the kitchen stuff, because it's hopeless to set up stuff in a galley kitchen when everyone keeps coming past you with moving stuff - and then Sunday will be M-Day. I wish I still had that Monday off. I plan to be tired.

So if any of y'all want to help with the painting and the moving and you haven't yet received an invitation to the extravaganza that is my moving day, let me know!
