curiouser and curiouser

I am having the weirdest dreams lately. I think it has something to do with my new duvet, which is the warmest thing on the planet - too warm at times.

I had this dream yesterday that I went to play hockey on a Thursday, and there were all these objects embedded in the ice, and then I went to the lockerroom and got these kittens, one white and one black, and then there was this business with a ghost in my bed, and then we all ended up on a quest to the gates of hell, with the ghost as my guide and the kittens as my protecting angels.

And hell ended up looking remarkably like a Wal-Mart with energy-saver lighting.

So.

I'm pretty much resigned to not hanging with the Senators this season. I have one more ace up my sleeve, but after that, I'm just hooped, I guess. So I'll be doing a literature-based project along the same lines, which isn't so bad.

Then I got my TA listing today. I'm not teaching intro, which is good, and I'm the only TA for Culture and Symbol, which is good (because it means the class is small and there's not much work for me to do), but they forgot to give me a class for the fall term. They always seem to forget that I'm a TA at that school. Like they always take my offices away. They'd better not do that this term. My office rocks. It's just me and four PhD students who don't have the same schedules as me, so I have this little room all to myself.

Anyway, because I supposedly wasn't going to be teaching this term (and apparently not receiving a paycheque) I answered an ad for a PhD student who needed a transcriber. Unfortunately, they'd already found someone before they placed the ad on the listserv. But they're keeping me in mind.

I also might have a part time thing going down where I monitor the behaviour of my great aunt Bobby, who has Alzheimer's and a broken hip and has to stay in bed all the time. But I don't know how comfortable I would feel doing that (I have no experience dealing with old people), so I have a trial run on Saturday and then I get to decide after that. But if you know anyone who is a physiotherapist or a kinesiologist or someone who is looking for an easy part time job with a very intelligent and entertaining old lady, please let me know.

That's about all that's going on with me right now. I made myself up a schedule today (which now has to be revised, because I'll be teaching and not transcribing), and I'm just trying to gear myself up to actually getting this whole thesis thing off the ground, starting with my new research proposal. It'll all get started . . . on Monday . . .
